We've heard plenty about the mid-range follow-up to the
excellent OnePlus
2 already, with convincing renders and leaked
benchmark specifications painting a pretty detailed picture of the new phone.
Many of those details have been confirmed, or at least
strengthened, thanks to an anonymously sourced tip from GforGames.
Apparently, the OnePlus Mini will be powered by a MediaTek
Helio X10 CPU with 2GB of LPDDR3 RAM - which is precisely what those
aforementioned benchmark tests suggested. It'll also have 32GB of internal
storage with support for microSD expansion - a facility both previous OnePlus
phones have lacked.
The tip also claims that the OnePlus Mini will have a 5-inch
1080p display. That's not exactly what we'd call 'mini,' but we suppose it is
quite a bit smaller than the 5.5-inch OnePlus 2.
It's claimed that there'll be no dual-camera set-up, as some
early reports suggested, but that the Mini will feature a regular 13-megapixel
Sony IMX258 image sensor and an f/2.0 aperture. It'll also have a Dual-Tone LED
flash and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera.
The tip claims that both the OnePlus One's camera and its
display will be the same as those used in the Xiaomi Mi4c.
All this will be powered by a 3,000 mAh non-removable
battery, and there'll be a USB Type-C port just like the OnePlus 2. One spec
that was notably absent from the OnePlus 2 was NFC connectivity, but that will
apparently be present in the OnePlus Mini, complete with a rear-mounted
fingerprint sensor for Android Pay support.
Another interesting specification listed here is IP67 dust
and waterproof certification, so it should be a fair bit more rugged than its
predecessors.
Given that these specifications are apparently culled from a
prototype device, they shouldn't be taken as definite. We're particularly
surprised by those NFC and microSD claims.
The OnePlus Mini will launch in
November or December for $250.
