We're just hours away from Google's special launch event,
where it's expected to announce the Nexus 5X and Nexus
6P smartphones.
Yesterday we reported on a major
spec leak for the latter, larger device. Today we bring you news of a
similar information splurge on the Nexus 5X.
Once again, photo-sharing service Imgur is the means
through which these details have been shared. They appear to come in the form
of marketing materials for Google's belated Nexus 5 follow-up.
In truth, we already knew much of what this latest leak has
revealed about the Nexus 5X, but it acts to confirm those expectations. It also
clears up a few questionable points surrounding previous leaks.
The Nexus 5X, then, will have a 5.2in 1080p LCD panel
covered by Gorilla Glass 3. It will run on Qualcomm's 64-bit Snapdragon 808
CPU, which will be backed by just 2GB of RAM.
The phone's design will incorporate a fingerprint sensor on
the rear, and there will be support for a USB Type-C connection in place of the
usual micro-USB.
Just above the fingerprint sensor will sit a 12.3-megapixel
camera with an f/2.0 aperture lens. Its 1.55-micron pixels promise to capture
more light than usual, while laser-assisted autofocus should make for snappy
and in-focus shots. 4K video is supported too.
Internal storage options will be 16GB or 32GB, and there's
no option of a microSD provision.
One matter that the leak clears up is that surrounding the
Nexus 5X's weight. We were a little confused by a previous Amazon listing leak
that suggested that the phone would weigh 177g. That's extremely heavy for an
otherwise compact (147 x 72.6 x 7.9mm) handset – particularly one that will be
made predominantly of plastic.
According to this latest leak, the Nexus 5X will weigh 136g
– just 6g heavier than the Nexus 5 – which makes much more sense. We'll find out whether these details are correct from 4pm
tonight, so stay tuned.
